Project Overview Of Level 1

This is the basic project overview that i would want to achieve by the end of Final Year.

Simulation Application

To Simulate Lighting From The Real World Into The Virtual World

In the Beginning we will start of the Application with a simple Game Menu GUI

Then Followed by a choice of  two different blue prints (Yet to be chosen) Bedroom and the Living Room because this two places are where Artificial Lights makes a huge impact on.
Then After choosing the blueprint of their liking, The Application will teleport to another scene where the space of the room will be empty, and the user will be able to test the given light fixtures out.
This is called the Light Lab.
This is just an Example.
Using Unity's New User Interface, I will be able to create a menu of light fixtures to chose the lights from.

Lights Shapes and Sizes

Artificial Lights

Artificial Lights

There is many different artificial lights and their specific use of it.

Type of Lights

Incandescent:

An incandescent bulb consists of a filament that glows when electricity is passed through it.
Incandescent Bulb

         Halogen Lamp:

A halogen lamp is a type of incandescent lamp where high-pressure halogen gas is inside the bulb allowing the filament to burn hotter and longer.

                                                     Gaseous Discharge

This technology passes electricity through a gas, which excites the gas and causes it to glow. Fluorescent, high-intensity discharge lights (HID) and low-pressure sodium lights use this technology. HID lamps use different gases to produce light:
  • Mercury Vapor
  • Metal Halide
  • High Pressure Sodium
These types of lights require a ballast, which is a device that starts the lamp and regulates its operation.

Ballast

LED

LED’s are the newest type of artificial light and were born out of the electronics and computer industry. An LED is a tiny electronic device that emits light.

Simulation of Lights In an Interior Space

1.0 ABSTRACT
The Purpose of this study is to simulate artificial lights from the real world in an Virtual Environment using Unity 3D.Generally speaking, artificial lighting is lighting which is man made, such as fluorescent, tungsten, mercury vapor, sodium vapor, halogen, compact fluorescent. It can be turned on and off at a flick of a switch.

There are also very special types of artificial light for specific purposes Such as infrared heat lamps, ultraviolet lights for plant growth and tanning.

This study will be done in fixed environments like a living room of a house or a bedroom of a house so on and so forth. In this research also poses the question, whether Virtual Reality can accurately simulate lighting effects of the chosen physical environment.

2.0 TARGET AUDIENCE

25 & Above

3.0 GOAL

3.1 What is the goal of this application?

1. The goal of this application is to allow users to test and simulate different lighting for the purpose of their interior space.
2. In this application, Users will be able to see how different lighting affect the mood or surroundings of the interior space.

3.2 What is this application trying to solve?

1. This application is trying to solve whether software-generated systems can produce the same accurate lighting effects in a real physical environment
2. This application also allows users to test the type of lights they would want to use in the interior space and do not have to spend on testing it anywhere else.

3.3 What are the advantages of VR that can be exploited to enhance your project?

VR Technology can help to immerse the user through realistic Visuals and Audio effects. Users will be able to interact with the environment and simulate different artificial lights Through the Oculus Rift DK2, it will make the game more realistic and more immersive .

3.4 Is this project new or has it been done before?

This Project has been done before but on a theoretical based study.

4.0 OBJECTIVE

The Objective of simulating artificial light in virtual reality is that it allows the user to pick from various different light fixtures, bulbs or LED's and apply them to an interior space, Moreover users are able to get an accurate light reflection, bounce and so on with this application. They can then apply them in real life so that they don't have to spend so much money buying different fixtures and testing them out.

5.0 BENCHMARK

-Lumion 5.0

-Virtual Home Environment on Oculus rift

-Rendered Still Images

6.0 DESCRIPTION

User will be given instruction on how the application works after the user has clicked on the button play.
Level 1:
User will be able to choose from different light fixtures
For Example

Light A
Light B
Light C

and so on.

Level 2: User is then able to pick what type of moods and emotions that they would want and the particular chosen light will be added to it

Level 3: User is allowed to change and alter materials from wall or furniture, to suit the light of their choice and save the picture as reference.

7.0 INTERACTION DESCRIPTION

-GUI Text or Graphics with Information on Light Fixtures and Characteristic of the lights.
- Xbox Controller or Leap Motion
-Click Color Change- (for Lights)
-Lighting and Material Editor
-Player Mode

8.0 OUTPUT & INPUT

-Output : Oculus rift DK2, Leap Motion or Xbox Controller
-Input :Visual and Audio
